Pack shifts tighter — less idle time, fewer split shifts
The Dynamic Shifts module builds an optimal set of trips, shifts and duties for people and vehicles from a work schedule or transport work contract. A unique shift set for every day instead of two per year — recomputed in minutes whenever the timetable changes
Input → output: from schedule to shift plan
The module answers the question “which shifts are needed and what they cost”.
- STEP 01
Input: a schedule or service contract
Under transport work contracts, an operator receives only a table of trip counts and headways — and has to build shifts and duties on its own. Opturan takes that table, or a regular work schedule, as input
- STEP 02
Computation: discrete optimization
The engine explores ways to combine trips into shifts and duties — from half shifts to extended ones — respecting work-and-rest rules and company policies. Tighter shifts mean less paid idle time
- STEP 03
Output: trips, shifts and duties
The result is an economically optimal set of shifts and duties for people and vehicles, ready for crew assignment in the Auto-Rostering module
What it delivers
The ranges were measured on real deployments with real line dispatch. The effect for your operation is confirmed by free test runs on your own data
In a deployment with a large transit operator (45 routes), the total effect was 149 million rubles per year — the result of a specific deployment, not a promise to everyone
How the module fits into your operations
- STEP 01
Alongside existing systems
No IT landscape replacement is required: schedules, contracts and fleet data are loaded from the systems you already run
- STEP 02
“What if” scenarios
Parallel computations let you compare options — a different timetable, fleet or shift-building rules — before a decision is made
- STEP 03
Together with Auto-Rostering
The generated shifts and duties are passed to the Auto-Rostering module, which assigns specific people and vehicles to them. Together the modules cover the full pipeline — from schedule to ready roster
Industries
Shift-building rules are configured for any service where people and vehicles work in shifts
Public Transit in production
Proven in production: trips, shifts and duties for drivers and rolling stock
Emergency Medical Services
A solution for EMS stations: crew duty schedules shaped around call peaks
Fire Services
A solution for fire departments: watch and duty schedules
Utilities
A solution for water, heat and power utilities: crew schedules and special vehicle duties
Test the effect on your own shifts
Free test runs on a single route, depot or unit — the effect evaluation methodology is agreed in advance
